Tinker Helps Distribute News
Tinker has partnered with msnbc.com to deliver live streams during key news events, giving their on air broadcasters a new way to engage with their audience while giving their audience a way to participate in the news while it is happening. Some of the news events Tinker has covered include:
- President Obama's Virtual Town Hall on health care where Tinker enabled the MSNBC audience to tweet questions and comments directly to the president while watching the live stream. During the live hour-and-a-half town hall, tweets appeared in real-time from people all over the world on the Tinker Widget next to the live video.
- Live streaming of Michael Jackson's public memorial, which shattered msnbc.com’s online video stream record with nearly 19 million total streams. The Tinker widget received more than 10 million views with over 165,000 Michael Jackson-related tweets during the event.
- Provided msnbc.com's audience with the ability to both watch live streaming video coverage of the Senate confirmation hearing for Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor and to tweet in real-time during this event.
Tinker Conference Coverage
Digital Content NewFront hosted by Digitas: Cutting-edge ad agency Digitas wanted to add an online social element to their conference during NY’s Internet Week with Al Gore as the keynote. To extend their event online and connect audiences beyond the physical space, they chose Tinker to aggregate and moderate the conversation in real-time during the conference. People could ask questions and participate no matter where they were directly through Tinker and Digitas could use the Tinker moderation tools to approve relevant tweets before appearing in the projected stream. A custom Tinker Live Event Page was projected on the wall during the event. Tweeters and non-tweeters could see the bubbling-up conversation. This is how it worked:
- Tinker widget: To extend the conversation beyond NY, Digitas used a Tinker widget on their website next to a live video stream of the conference. Anyone, anywhere could watch and ask a question.
- Moderation Queue: To curate the conversation and keep the focus on relevant, conversation-starting tweets, Tinker provided the Digitas team with a moderation queue to approve tweets.
- Real-time video: To promote the conference, Tinker.com played real-time video on the Tinker.com Event Stream page so online users could watch and react.
- Video Ads ran across the Glam Network driving traffic to the Tinker Event Stream. The metrics: 15,000 impressions with a .3% CTR.

Mercedes-Benz NY Fashion Week 2009 Publisher Widget
More than 40 Glam Publishers embedded custom Tinker Widgets on their sites to broadcast news from the Bryant Park Tents as it was happening. With exclusive content from Fashion Week Daily, including photos and videos, these savvy publishers could comment on the shows, designers, trends and all the excitement on the runways and behind-the-scenes. The Fashion Week widgets had three tabs that filtered tweets by:
- All tab: captured every tweet with the official Fashion Week hashtag #NYFW
- In the Tents tab: showed tweets from key fashion industry insiders, including Women’s Wear Daily, The New York Times, Glamour, Elle Creative Director Joe Zee and other elite fashion editors and bloggers.
- Glam Network tab: revealed all tweets from participating Glam Network Publishers attending the show and in the field.
